Stations: Stockhausen & Rihm

Elbphilharmonie, Kleiner Saal (Hamburg)
Saskia Ogilvie (Cello), Adrian Heger (Piano), Michael Pattmann (Percussion), Kathinka Pasveer (Sound)
Karlheinz Stockhausen – and Wolfgang Rihm? Was there something? You bet. In the early summer of 1972, Rihm finished school and had a state examination in composition and music theory in his pocket. Rihm was just twenty and his goal was clear: to study composition. And only Stockhausen in Cologne was an option. He replies politely, invites him, but immediately makes his reservations clear in writing. It had to be »clear that you have no other plans for at least two years. Otherwise you’d better go somewhere else or nowhere at all. Kind regards, K. Stockhausen«.

Felix Kubin, Mark Boombastik and Ensemble Resonanz are on an intergalactic mission: they are collecting sounds for the Plexifon, a cosmic music machine. Guided by their spaceship’s slightly confused computer Tipsy, they fly through the cosmos to planets made of water, parallel worlds and aggressive boulders. Hopefully Tipsy doesn’t miss the right exit… »Twinkle Concerts« is the series of children’s concerts at the Elbphilharmonie that brings the most successful productions from all over Europe to Hamburg. At times funny and playful, at others thoughtful and reflective, the series introduces children to the world of music in a special and unique way.
